Prepaid Cell Phones: Better Than Contract Plans

By Vanessa Rivera

To say that everybody has a cell phone is actually an understatement. Today there are more wireless subscriptions than there are people in this country. Cell phones are a fantastic way to keep in touch with friends and family and even business associates. However, this convenience and being connected does not come cheap. Most cell phone plans come with a very expensive two year contract. So for those who want to get connected without breaking the bank, what other option is there?

Whether you're entirely new to prepaid cell phones or you are still undecided whether to make the switch, read on to find out just exactly why prepaid plans are leading in industry growth.

The main reason why people choose prepaid plans over contract plans, otherwise known as postpaid plans, is because prepaid plans are cheaper. They are cheaper any way you compare them to contract plans. For starters, with a basic contract plan, the plan will include the numbers of minutes you think you will consume monthly. Any minutes that you use in excess are considered over the minute and you will be charged a different rate for those. Usually, these over the minute fees are the most expensive rates out there. Conversely, with prepaid plans, you buy a set amount of minutes upfront. When you use these minutes up, your phone service will simply shut off. You can never go over on your minutes with a prepaid plan.

Prepaid phone plans work quite simply actually. You buy the minutes you think you need for the month and you pay for that exactly. No hidden charges, no contracts and no monthly bill. Should you decide that you require more minutes then go ahead and purchase more minutes. If not, then just remember to reload your minutes when the activation period for your cell phone is up. It's that simple. Should you wish to terminate the service then simply let it lapse. You won't be charged an early termination fee. Also, there's no way to adversely affect your credit score, because with prepaid plans, there's no contract to sign.

Apart from prepaid cell phone plans being cheap and risk free, these plans are also very flexible. A traditional contract plan mandates their customers to pay up a regular on a regular amount monthly. This means that contract customers have no choice, no say, on the amount they will be paying monthly. Needless to say, the risk in this case is high. Prepaid cell phone users on the other hand have total control, total flexibility and no risk whatsoever. Prepaid cell phone users can increase or decrease their usage based solely on their needs and their budget. They can just keep on buying minutes if they want to or buy only the minimum minutes. Whatever their choice may be, the prepaid cell phone users can enjoy great flexibility with their plans.

With prepaid plans being the cheapest plans available, and with the flexibility that it gives the users, there really is no reason why people should continue to use contract plans. They give you the freedom to choose your minutes, the amount of money you're willing to spend for it monthly, and the control to terminate the service anytime should you wish to, without any risks at all.
